John H. Barron was born in Tuscarora, New York in 1883. He graduated from Cornell University in 1906. In 1911 he was appointed County Agricultural Agent in Broome County, New York, the first such agent in the Northeasten United States, and the first Farm Bureau agent in the country. From 1914-1943 he was an Extension Professor of Field Crops at the New York State College of Agriculture at Cornell University.
